If you’ve secured your furniture using Cranach Hardware’s plastic tip restraint kits, there’s an urgent recall you should know about.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns that these plastic parts can break or weaken over time, leading to furniture tip-overs that may cause serious injury or even death — especially to children or elderly adults.
The recall involves Cranach Hardware Plastic Tip Restraint Kits, also called furniture straps, used to secure dressers, shelves, and other tall furniture to the wall.
CPSC testing found that the plastic brackets and zip ties can degrade or snap, meaning the furniture could fall forward if leaned on or pulled. The defective kits fail to meet ASTM F3096-23, the safety standard for tip restraints. That’s why Cranach Hardware is recalling the product and offering free stainless steel replacement kits that meet all safety standards.
Here’s what’s going on and how to get your free replacement kit.
Which Products Are Affected
About 55,170 kits are included in this recall. You may have one if your kit:
Includes white plastic brackets/mounts and a white plastic zip tie cable
Came with two pairs of screws (one long, one short) and two drywall anchors
Was sold under the Cranach Hardware brand
If your restraint kit matches that description — even if you installed it a while ago — stop using it right away.
