Hawaiian Electric $135M Maui Wildfires Settlement – File Your Claim

If you were affected by the August 2023 Maui wildfires, you may be entitled to a cash payment under a $135 million class action settlement with Hawaiian Electric. This settlement is part of a larger $4.037 billion Global Settlement addressing damages from the devastating fires that struck Lahaina, Kula, and Olinda.

Why is there a lawsuit?

Victims of the Maui wildfires alleged that Hawaiian Electric and others bore responsibility for the destruction caused by the fires. Rather than continue costly and uncertain litigation, the parties agreed to settle.

Hawaiian Electric has not admitted wrongdoing, but the settlement creates a Class Settlement Fund of $135 million to compensate eligible survivors.

Who qualifies?

You may be included if you suffered damages from the Maui wildfires. Eligible categories include:

  • Property owners or renters within or near the fire perimeters

  • Business owners or workers impacted by fire damage or loss of tourism

  • Property damage on Maui between Aug. 8–Oct. 8, 2023

  • Businesses suffering losses due to reduced tourism

Payment amounts will vary depending on the type and extent of losses, which may include:

  • Real or personal property damage

  • Business interruption or lost income

  • Evacuation costs
