Why is there a lawsuit?
This class action alleges that Samsara violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) by collecting and storing biometric data — like facial scans — through its dual-facing dash cameras, without properly notifying drivers or getting their consent.
Samsara denies wrongdoing but has agreed to a $3.95 million settlement to resolve the claims.
Who qualifies?
You may qualify for a payout if:
You operated a vehicle in Illinois that had a Samsara dual-facing dash cam between Dec. 16, 2016, and June 12, 2025, or
You are an Illinois resident who operated one of those vehicles outside Illinois during that same period
Applies to employees and independent contractors
How much can I get?
If you’re eligible, you can choose:
A pro rata cash payment (your share of the settlement, based on total claims), and/or
A free one-year Privacy Shield data protection plan
