Tesla is recalling about 10,500 Powerwall 2 AC Battery Systems because the lithium-ion cells can overheat, causing the unit to stop functioning and, in some reported cases, produce smoke or flames. This poses a fire and burn hazard that could lead to serious injury or death.
Tesla has reported 22 overheating incidents, including 6 cases of smoking and 5 fires, which caused minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.
Which Products Are Affected
The recall includes certain Tesla Powerwall 2 AC Battery Systems sold:

What You Should Do
Here’s what Tesla recommends for owners of potentially affected systems:
Make sure your Powerwall 2 is online.
Check the Tesla App to see if your unit is included in the recall.
If it is, Tesla has already remotely discharged the battery (removed stored energy) to prevent overheating until your replacement is installed.
Do not attempt repairs yourself.
Tesla will replace affected units at no cost.
