Claim up to $25,000 or a partial premium refund — Deadline: May 26, 2026
If you had MetLife auto insurance in New Mexico between October 1, 2010 and January 31, 2022, you may be eligible for money from a $1.2 million class action settlement.
Some policyholders had their injury claims reduced through “offsets,” while others may have paid for UM/UIM coverage that is now being partially refunded.
Why this lawsuit exists?
A class action lawsuit alleged that Metropolitan Direct Property and Casualty Insurance Company (MetLife):
- Reduced underinsured motorist (UIM) claims by offsetting payments made by at-fault drivers
- Misrepresented or failed to fully disclose limitations in UM/UIM coverage
- May have breached contract and violated New Mexico consumer protection laws
MetLife denies wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid further litigation.
Who qualifies??
There are two groups of eligible class members:
1. Offset Subclass
- Had a MetLife auto insurance policy in New Mexico, AND
- Filed a UIM claim between Oct. 1, 2010 – Jan. 31, 2022, AND
- That claim was reduced (“offset”) by payments from the at-fault driver’s insurer
2. Premium Refund Subclass
