If you received a notice about the TransUnion Class Action, you may be entitled to a cash payment from a $2.5 million class action settlement.
This case claims that TransUnion, one of the three major credit bureaus, violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) by failing to properly delete consumer information after being asked to do so. TransUnion denies wrongdoing but has agreed to settle.
Here’s what you need to know:
Why is there a lawsuit?
TransUnion shared consumer data with Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRA) through its “Triggers for Collection” product.
Even after PRA requested that certain consumer records be deleted, TransUnion allegedly kept sending the data for more than two business days.
Plaintiffs say this violated the FCRA’s requirement for accurate, up-to-date reporting.
Who qualifies?
You’re included in the settlement if:
You lived in the U.S. or its territories AND
You were assigned a user reference number listed in TransUnion/PRA’s data productions AND
TransUnion sent PRA data tied to that reference number more than two business days after PRA requested deletion AND
This happened between January 20, 2021, and December 31, 2023.
How much can people get?
All class members who do not opt out will receive an equal share of the net $2.5M settlement fund.
Payments are expected to be at least $40 per person, but the final amount depends on the total number of participants.
No claim form is required — payments will be sent automatically.
