Why the Lawsuit Exists
Between March 7–21, 2022, Shields Health Care Group experienced a cyberattack that may have exposed sensitive patient information, including Social Security numbers and health data. The lawsuit claims Shields could have prevented the breach with reasonable cybersecurity measures. Shields denies any wrongdoing but agreed to a $15.35 million settlement to resolve the claims.
Who Qualifies
You may be a Settlement Class Member if you:
Reside in the U.S., and
Your personal information was impacted in the March 2022 Shields data breach.
There are two subclasses:
Massachusetts residents
Non-Massachusetts U.S. residents
How Much You Can Get
Settlement benefits vary based on losses and time spent addressing the breach:
Ordinary Losses: Up to $2,500 (credit monitoring, communication costs, lost time up to 5 hours at $30/hour)
Extraordinary Losses: Up to $25,000 (identity theft, fraud, false tax returns, financial misuse, lost time up to 20 hours at $30/hour)
Alternative Cash Payment: $50 if no documented losses or time spent
