Over 6 Million Eggs Recalled for Possible Salmonella Contamination

More than 6 million eggs have been recalled due to possible salmonella contamination, according to an updated FDA notice.

What Happened

The Black Sheep Egg Company first issued a voluntary recall on September 29 after FDA testing found seven strains of salmonella in 40 samples taken from its Arkansas processing facility.

On October 17, the FDA expanded its advisory when Kenz Henz also recalled its 12-count egg cartons sold in Texas.

Why It Matters

Because Black Sheep distributes to both wholesalers and retailers, many eggs were repackaged and sold under different brand names. This means the affected eggs could appear with various labels in stores or restaurants.

So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the Kenz Henz recall.

However, officials warn that thousands of recalled eggs may still be in homes or on store shelves — and salmonella can cause serious illness, especially in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.

What to Do

  • Check your refrigerator for any of the affected cartons.

  • Do not eat or cook recalled eggs — even well-cooked eggs can pose a risk.

  • Dispose of them safely or return to the place of purchase for a refund.
