Why is there a lawsuit?
A class action lawsuit claims that Canteen (Compass Group USA Inc.) vending machines charged card users more than the posted price — without clearly saying so. The machines accepted both cash and cards, but didn’t always disclose the card surcharge.
Canteen denies any wrongdoing, but agreed to settle the case for $6.94 million to avoid further litigation.
Who qualifies?

You made at least one purchase from a Canteen vending machine in the U.S.
You paid using a credit, debit, or prepaid card
Your purchase happened between 2014 and July 9, 2025
The machine did NOT show both cash and card prices (or a cash discount sticker)
Machines that clearly disclosed card pricing don’t qualify.
