Navitas Organics Voluntarily Recalls Select Lots of 8oz Organic Chia Seeds

If you recently purchased Navitas Organics 8oz Organic Chia Seeds, take a minute to check the package. A recall has been issued due to a possible Salmonella contamination risk.

The recall was initiated as a precaution after the company’s chia seed supplier issued its own recall.

Important to know:

  • No illnesses have been reported
  • No Salmonella has been confirmed in Navitas’ product
  • The recall is precautionary
  • No other Navitas products are affected

 

Salmonella can cause serious infections, especially in:

  • Young children
  • Older adults
  • People with weakened immune systems

 

Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, infection can become more serious.

Only the following product is included in this recall:

  • Navitas Organics – Organic Chia Seeds, 8oz

  • UPC: 858847000284

  • Packaged in sealed stand-up pouches

 

Check the back of the bag above the nutrition label for a 9-digit Lot Code starting with “W.”

The following lot codes are affected:

  • W31025283 – Best If Used By: End APR 2027

  • W31025286 – End APR 2027

  • W31025287 – End APR 2027

  • W31025311 – End MAY 2027

  • W31025314 – End MAY 2027

  • W31025315 – End MAY 2027

  • W31025316 – End MAY 2027

  • W31025317 – End MAY 2027

 

The product was distributed nationwide, including:

  • Whole Foods Market

  • Target

  • Amazon

  • iHerb

  • Vitacost.com

 

If your bag does not match these lot codes, it is not included in the recall.

What You Should Do

If you have one of the affected lot codes:

  • Do NOT consume the product

  • Open the bag

  • Discard the chia seeds

  • Dispose of the bag in a way that makes it unusable

 

You may return the product to the place of purchase for a refund or contact the company for a replacement.
