A $50,000,000 class action settlement has been preliminarily approved in a lawsuit involving alleged racial discrimination against Black and Black+ employees.
Why This Lawsuit Exists?
The lawsuit Curley et al. v. Google LLC claims that Google engaged in:
- Race discrimination in hiring, pay, promotions, and job assignments
- Unfair performance reviews and career advancement practices
- Retaliation against employees who raised concerns
- A racially hostile work environment
Google denies all allegations but agreed to settle to avoid the cost and risk of continued litigation.
Who Qualifies?
You may be part of the settlement if:
- You were identified in Google’s records as Black or Black+
- You worked in job levels 3, 4, 5, or 6
- Your role was located in:
- California between March 18, 2018 – December 31, 2023, OR
- New York between October 15, 2017 – December 31, 2023
Additional notes:
- If you received a notice, you are likely already identified as a class member
- Certain individuals (such as those in specific legal job roles or who signed releases) are excluded
How Much You Can Get?

There is no fixed payout amount. Instead, payments are based on:
- Length of employment
- Job level(s)
- Experiences related to discrimination or retaliation
- Financial, career, and emotional impact
After deductions (attorneys’ fees, administration costs, etc.), the remaining funds will be distributed to eligible class members.
