First Federal Bank of Kansas City $300K Overdraft Settlement

If you have or had a personal checking account with First Federal Bank of Kansas City and were charged certain overdraft fees, you may be eligible to receive money from a $300,000 class action settlement.

The settlement resolves claims that the bank allegedly charged overdraft fees on certain debit card transactions that were authorized when an account had enough funds but later settled when the account had insufficient funds.

First Federal Bank of Kansas City denies wrongdoing but agreed to settle the lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty of continued litigation.

Why does this lawsuit exist?

The lawsuit claims First Federal Bank of Kansas City improperly charged overdraft fees on certain debit card transactions.

The allegations involve transactions where:

  • The bank authorized a debit card transaction when the account had sufficient funds available
  • The transaction later settled when the account had insufficient funds
  • The customer was charged an overdraft fee as a result

The plaintiff claimed these practices violated the account agreement and the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing.

The settlement administrator identified eligible class members using the bank’s customer account records.
