City of Hope $8.5M Data Breach Settlement — Claim Up to $5,000

Why This Lawsuit Exists

In October 2023, City of Hope National Medical Center discovered a data breach that may have exposed patients’ personal and health information — including Social Security numbers and medical details.

A class action lawsuit followed, accusing City of Hope of failing to protect patient data. The case is called In re City of Hope Data Security Breach Litigation, Case No. 24STCV09935 (Los Angeles County Superior Court).

City of Hope denies wrongdoing but agreed to an $8.5 million settlement to resolve the claims and compensate affected individuals.

Who Qualifies

You’re part of the Settlement Class if you:

  • Received a data breach notice from City of Hope in April 2024,
  • Informing you that your personal information may have been exposed in the October 2023 breach.

(If you didn’t get a notice, you’re likely not included.)

How Much You Can Get

Class members can receive different payment amounts depending on their situation:

  • If you experienced documented financial losses, you can receive up to $5,000 in reimbursement. This covers out-of-pocket expenses and up to four hours of lost time paid at $25 per hour.
  • If you didn’t have losses, you can still get a $100 cash payment.
  • California residents who lived in the state between September 19, 2023, and January 13, 2026 can also get an extra $250 statutory payment.

Everyone who files a valid claim for money will also receive free medical information protection and credit monitoring through CyEx.

How to File Your Claim

Here’s how to get your payout:

  1. Go to the official settlement website.
  2. Click “Submit Claim Form.”
  3. Enter your personal details and upload proof of losses (if applicable).
  4. Submit your claim online by January 13, 2026.

Proof of Purchase (What You’ll Need)

If you’re claiming documented losses, you must include:

  • Your name and current address,
  • Documentation that supports your claim (such as receipts, bank statements, or emails),
  • A brief description of the loss — especially if it’s not obvious from the documentation.

This helps verify your claim and ensures you get the correct payment amount.
