If you used an Aura smart photo frame and live in Illinois, this settlement may put cash back in your pocket.
Aura Home Inc. (doing business as Aura Frames) has agreed to pay nearly $1.9 million to resolve claims that it collected facial geometry data without proper consent—something Illinois law strictly regulates.
Below is a quick breakdown so you can decide whether to file a claim and how to do it.
Why This Lawsuit Exists?
The lawsuit claims Aura Frames violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) by collecting and using facial matching data from user photos without informed written consent and without proper data retention and destruction policies.
BIPA requires companies to:
Get written consent before collecting biometric data
Clearly explain how long the data is kept
Properly destroy biometric data when it’s no longer needed
Aura denies wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement to avoid the cost and risk of ongoing litigation.

You signed up for an Aura account in Illinois
Your facial matching data was collected from your photos
This happened between July 16, 2019 and November 4, 2025

When filing a claim, you’ll need to attest under penalty of perjury that these statements are true.
How Much Money Can You Get?
Up to $13.28 per person
Payment will be sent by check
Amount may be reduced pro rata depending on how many people file claims
